Holocaust Remembrance Day was created by act of Congress in 1980 for remembering the victims of the Holocaust. It also serves to remind Americans of what can happen when bigotry, hatred and indifference rule the emotions of civilized people.The United States Holocaust Memorial Council led the nation in civic commemorations throughout the United States. Observances and Remembrance activities often run from the Sunday before through the Sunday after the actual date.
