KEARNY – Please help our drive for the poorest of the poor in Kentucky by bringing your donations to The Observer offices at 531 Kearny Ave. on Tuesday and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Above is the result of the extraordinary generosity of Kearny residents and businesses, the Kearny Fire Department FMBA and others from last year's layout of items in Knotts County.

Kentucky Care drive finale

KEARNY – The Kentucky Care drive is ending on Sept. 11. Please note that we will stop taking donations at 4 p.m. sharp on that day. The closing celebration is at 5 p.m. – all are welcome. We will be in the parking lot behind the Observer offices at 531 Kearny Ave. Please come up the driveway to the left of the building. See you there!

Going all out for Kentucky Care

KEARNY - Observer publisher and Kearny Rotary President Lisa Pezzolla received this correspondence from the Kearny FMBA (Firemen's Mutual Benevolent Association) Local 18 president concerning Kentucky Care collections.

To the Publisher:

On Thursday, Aug. 28, five members of the Kearny FMBA (Firemen's Mutual Benevolent Association) rented a truck and moved approximately $25,000 worth of furniture donated to the Association by a Newark business owner to the Kentucky Care trailer located in the parking lot behind The Observer office at 531 Kearny Ave.

The furniture was mostly used and floor models but I'm sure it will serve its purpose.
On Sept. 11 our organization will be making a contribution of canned goods valued at $10,000. Mr. John Tully owner of the Kearny Shoprite was happy to cooperate with us on this venture and discounted $2,000 for us. We have approximately 550 cases of food and will deliver them on Sept. 11.

As you all know this day is sacred to all firefighters but we couldn't think of a better way to spend it than helping out in this cause. Please contact me to set up some logistics for our donation. I heard there might be a party or something going on there that day.

We continue to have a steady stream of donations and are amazed at the generosity of area residents. The variety and quality of the doantions is impressive.
