NJ Real Estate Advisory Board

Blue Ribbon Panel to Spur Economic Development

TRENTON – Governor Jon S. Corzine today announced the formation of a blue ribbon advisory panel known as the New Jersey Real Estate Advisory Board. The panel will be comprised of economic development leaders throughout the State, representing a cross-section of New Jersey’s major industry sectors.
“New Jersey cannot stand idly by while America’s financial crisis continues to evolve,” Governor Corzine said. “I look forward to collaborating with these talented industry leaders to craft policies that will help see New Jersey through this current economic crisis and move the State toward a path of recovery.”
The advisory panel will support the initiatives outlined in Governor Corzine’s Economic Assistance and Recovery Plan, which was announced in October. Board members will meet regularly and work closely with the Governor’s Office of Economic Growth as well as other State Departments to encourage economic development and revitalization across the state, enhance New Jersey’s appeal to investors and businesses, and serve as good will “ambassadors” for the State to recruit businesses to locate and expand in New Jersey.
“New Jersey’s businesses play an integral role in the continued economic prosperity of our state,” said Jerry Zaro, Chief of the Governor’s Office of Economic Growth. “The Real Estate Advisory Board will bring together some of the best and brightest in the state’s development community to work to create jobs, revenues and economic stability during this national recession.”
The new Board, which will serve as an informal advisory commission to the Governor, will be chaired by Joseph Taylor, CEO of Matrix Development Group. The remaining membership will represent the following sectors: Academic, Banking/Lending, Commercial, Construction Management, Housing, Industrial, Law, Office, Trade Organization, Retail, Risk Management, Broker/Dealers and Investors.

Message from the Gov

Dear Friends,

In October I addressed a special session of the Legislature to introduce a number of measures that would stimulate job growth, provide assistance to those in need and get our economy back on track. This month, I’ve signed into law almost every measure I introduced in October.

ECONOMIC STIMULUS PACKAGE
http://www.youtube.com/user/jonscorzine

· HOME FORECLOSURE PREVENTION, signed December 1: Provides $12.5 million in state funds and $51.4 million in federal funds for foreclosure prevention assistance as well as mortgage mediation and counseling opportunities.
· JOB CREATION AND INVESTMENT CREDITS, signed December 9: Provides NJ businesses a $3,000 grant for every new job they create and a 7% sales tax credit for qualified capital investments.

· ECONOMIC ASSISTANCE FOR FAMILIES, signed December 12: Provides $22.5 million to help struggling families get food, heat and the legal aid needed to keep them in their homes

· LOW COST LOANS FOR BUSINESSES, signed December 16: Creates the Main Street Business Assistance Program which will help banks offer low cost loans to qualified businesses and ease the credit crunch.

· SENIOR PROPERTY TAX FREEZE, signed December 18: Provides property tax relief averaging $1,000 to more disabled residents and seniors on a fixed income.

· BUSINESS TAX REFORM, signed December 19: Reform the state’s corporate tax laws to make New Jersey more attractive to business.

I know times are tough right now, and that’s why this administration has taken such a strong stance on providing economic assistance during this recession. The measures listed above will not only help us come out of this recession more quickly, but also put us in a stronger position for growth during the economic rebound that will inevitably follow.

You find more information about my Economic Assistance and Recovery Plan, including how to get assistance for your family at http://nj.gov/governor/home/plan.html

Sincerely,

Jon S. Corzine,
Governor

IRS Seeks to Return $6.98 Million

IRS Seeks to Return $6.98 Million in undelivered refunds and economic stimulus payments to New Jerseyans

KEARNY – The Internal Revenue Service is looking for Hudson County residents who are missing 872 economic stimulus checks totaling $520,890 and 392 regular refund checks totaling $448,029 that were returned by the U.S. Postal Service due to mailing address errors. The average undelivered stimulus payment is $597 and the average undelivered regular refund is $1143. In some instances, a taxpayer may have both an undelivered stimulus payment and a regular refund.
The Internal Revenue Service is looking for New Jerseyans who are missing 6,351 economic stimulus checks totaling about $3.82 million and 2,929 regular refund checks totaling nearly $3.16 million that were returned by the U.S. Postal Service due to mailing address errors. The average undelivered stimulus payment is $602 and the average undelivered regular refund is $1078. In some instances, a taxpayer may have both an undelivered stimulus payment and a regular refund.
Nationwide, the Internal Revenue Service is looking for taxpayers who are missing more than 279,000 economic stimulus checks totaling about $163 million and more than 104,000 regular refund checks totaling about $103 million that were returned by the U.S. Postal Service due to mailing address errors. The average undelivered stimulus payment is $583 and the average undelivered regular refund is $988.
“People across the country are missing tax refunds and stimulus checks. We want to get this money into the hands of taxpayers where it belongs,” IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman said. “We are committed to making the process as easy as possible for taxpayers to update their addresses with the IRS and get their checks. All a taxpayer has to do is update his or her address once. The IRS will then send out all checks due.”
Stimulus Checks
It is crucial that taxpayers who may be due a stimulus check update their addresses with the IRS by Nov. 28, 2008. By law, economic stimulus checks must be sent out by Dec. 31 of this year.
The “Where’s My Stimulus Payment?" tool on IRS.gov is the quickest and easiest way for a taxpayer to check the status of a stimulus check and receive instructions on how to update his or her address. Taxpayers without internet access should call 1-866-234-2942.
Regular Refunds
Taxpayers can update their addresses with the “Where’s My Refund?” tool on IRS.gov. It enables taxpayers to check the status of their refunds. A taxpayer must submit his or her social security number, filing status and amount of refund shown on their 2007 return. The tool will provide the status of their refund and in some cases provide instructions on how to resolve delivery problems.
Taxpayers checking on a refund over the phone will be given instructions on how to update their addresses. Taxpayers can access a telephone version of “Where’s My Refund?” by calling 1-800-829-1954.
These checks are resent as soon as taxpayers update their address.
Unsure?
Taxpayers not sure of which type of check they may be due should check on a potential economic stimulus check first because of the looming deadline.
For Most People
The vast majority of checks mailed out by the IRS reach their rightful owner every year. Only a very small percent are returned by the U.S. Postal Service as undeliverable.
Through September 2008, the government distributed 116 million economic stimulus payments with only about 279,000 checks being undeliverable. Meanwhile, the IRS has distributed more than 105 million regular refunds this year with only about 104,000 being undeliverable. In both cases, well under one percent of refunds or stimulus checks were undeliverable.
Avoiding Future Problems
The IRS encourages taxpayers to choose direct deposit when they file their return because it puts an end to lost, stolen or undeliverable checks. Taxpayers can receive refunds directly into personal checking or savings accounts. Direct deposit is available for filers of both paper and electronic returns.
The IRS also encourages taxpayers to file their tax returns electronically because e-file eliminates the risk of lost paper returns. E-file also reduces errors and speeds up refunds.

Bailout plan gaining supporters

WASHINGTON- Those in the House of Representatives who voted "no" are reconsidering a "yes" vote on the reconfigured Wall Street rescue plan that is supposedly made into an Economic rescue plan. The vote is about to come up in the House for a second time. Two of the "sweeteners," as reports are calling them, includes the Senate's addition of a $100 billion in tax breaks and increased mental health insurance coverage.
Or maybe it's just the major stock market plunge that has everyone running scared.
If passed, the legislation will allow billions of dollars to be spent on "bad mortagage-related securities" and the significantly devalued assest of financial institutions. What could result from the plan being quashed is that small businesses and other bank loans will become extremely limited for the average worker. But then again, over loans to those who extended themselves is part of the financial bind as well as the Wall Street wildly unsuccessful shenanigans.
With the bailout would come the same inflated prices on homes, keeping much of the population unable to get one in the first place.
Some reports say that many of the "no" representative were offered appeasements on their pet bills. It is also said that the new plan will eliminate "the alternative minimum tax for the middle class."
On the outside, investors like the much-watched Warren Buffet, JP Morgan Chase and others are reported to have taken on some of those floundering banks and their bad-news mortgages without the government lifting a finger.
Our economy is not dead yet and neither is this monstrously large bailout.
Seems they have us coming and going. That's enough to many anyone crazy. I guess if you have health insurance you'll gets some aid there.
If you're against the bailout you can check out this Web site and weigh in with other like-minded individuals. http://stopthehousingbailout.com/ Even if you are for the bailout this Web site has some very interesting analysis of the bailouts consequences. See for yourself what we could be perpetuating and heaving upon our own backs.

Bailout brought back to life

WASHINGTON - The big brewing bailout gathered steam as it passed 74-25 last night in the Senate. There will be a fierce confrontation, no doubt, with the House today. The new version of the plan adds tax breaks and a higher limit for insured bank deposits. Both Obama and McCain approve of the rescue plan.
How about that Main Street America?

Bailout bombs out

WASHINGTON – Rep. Albio Sires, D-West New York (13th District) broke with the two other Hudson County Reps. Steve Rothman, D- Fairlawn (9th District) and Donald Payne, D-Newark (10th District) on the Wall Street $700 billion bailout legislation. The House of Representatives shot down the mammoth rescue plan.
No Press Release from Sires or Payne yet but Rothman’s site had this one-two punch up:
“I think there are better ways to fix the economic problems caused by this Administration than this trickle-down Wall Street bailout program. The bill hints at, but does not make the necessary regulatory changes, fails to require direct relief for local banks and homeowners, and totally ignores the need to invest in nfrastructure, energy and other economic stimulus endeavors that are so urgently needed to lift up our economy and our people.
“In addition to believing that this plan is not the best to solve the problems described by President Bush’s Treasury Secretary, I am highly skeptical of President Bush’s ‘sky-is-falling’ message coming just days before Congress goes out of session and mere weeks before a Presidential election. One has to wonder why the President, his Treasury Secretary, Federal Reserve Chairman, and Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman did not know of the alleged financial crisis for the past 7 ½ years. I am prepared to stay in Washington for as long as it takes to develop the right plan for our country. We should not be stampeded into approving this lemon of a Wall Street bailout.”

New Jersey's House member votes:
YES
Rob Andrews (D-1st D)
Jim Saxton (R-3rd D)
Frank Pallone (D-6th)
Mike Ferguson (R-7th D)
Rush Holt (D-12th D)
Albio Sires (D-13th D)

NO
Frank LoBiondo (R-2nd D)
Chris Smith (R-4th D)
Scott Garrett (R-5th D)
Bill Pascrell (D-8th D)
Steven Rothman (D-9th D)
Donald Payne (D-10th D)
Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-11th D)

The Senate will vote on a final plan to bailout our floundering financial markets on Wednesday night.
