Correction on News Radio story

When Bruce Baff, seated on left, was a 28-year-old announcer, he appeared with TV/Radio star Gene Rayburn on Radio Central at NBC in New York City.

EDITOR'S NOTE: In the May 20 issue of The Observer, in the entertainment story called "Reminiscing news radio’s heyday," Mr. Baff's first name is stated as Bill, instead of Bruce.

Way to go KHS athletes!

Above are some of the student athlete's with Soccer Coach Billy Galka, left, Jim Cifelli, head cross country coach, behind Galka, and Vice Principal and Athletic Director John Millar, far right.

The following Kearny High School student athletes received recognition for their fall sport achievements and were honored at the Kearny Board of Education meeting on Jan. 20.

Kearny High School Fall Varsity Athletes:
Football – Jacob Nash, William Nash, James Livingstone, Nick Bush, and Justin Paz.
Girls Soccer – Marie Silva, Ana Sanchez, Rosemary Garganta, Jennifer Pettigrew, Samantha Pace, Danielle Green, Nicole Gouveia, Tiana Torres, Stephanie Gomes and Ashley Smith.
Boys Soccer – Franco Gamero, Danny Fiallos, Ian Ferrari, Nuno Santos, Pat Lockhard and Mike McCarthy.
Girls Volleyball – Ellese Ogando, Missy Scarpa and Ashley Latushko.
Girls Tennis – Lauren Ronan, Marie Morrell, Larissa Castelluber, Nicole Holzer, Jasmania Perez and Sarah Vargas.
Cross County – Brian Mendez.
Girls Championship Team (7) – Tania Bernardino, Renata Martin, Cayleigh Solano, Anabela Pereira, Cristina DaTorre, Esther Alfaro and Nancy Lam.
John Millar, Vice Principal and Athletic Director said that the fall season was outstanding with four teams qualifying for state tournaments with nearly 40 students receiving recognition in All-County, All-State or All-League.
"We had an outstanding fall season on the field," Millar said. "We're pretty well-known for boy and girls soccer and boys and girls cross-country."
An impressive short clip of the different teams, mascots and team spirit created by KHS alumni Chris Brooks was played for parents, board members and eager reporters. Looks like the rest of the teams honored may become well known soon enough. They are definitely a determined group of youngsters with the prize in their eyes.
