Tanelli miffed at Doria

NORTH ARLINGTON – Council president Steve Tanelli said he was displeased at remarks made by Joseph Doria, chairman of the Department of Community Affairs, at the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission press conference on the state’s new affordable housing rules.
Tanelli, a Democrat, said he was upset with Doria’s statements about politicians “grandstanding” on the COAH issue.
“It’s not grandstanding to try to protect your community from high density development and new taxes on commercial development that are detrimental to your community,” Tanelli said. Tanelli who went to the press conference to ask questions about the new COAH rules, but was not allowed to address Doria.
The council president referenced Senate President Dick Codey’s recently published statements that he will introduce legislation to exempt the New Jersey Sports Authority from COAH mandates.
“Does Mr. Doria think Sen. Codey is grandstanding too? Obviously he and Sen. Paul Sarlo (who offered to co-sponsor the legislation) see a downside to COAH-3. So do a lot of others. I think Mr. Doria needs to hear what we have to say,” Tanelli said.
He also is reported to have said that Doria should come to a borough meeting to explain to the taxpayers and residents the true impacts that COAH-3 will have on their taxes and our economy.
“I am willing to hold a special meeting in the high school gym if necessary so Mr. Doria and his staff can come down to North Arlington and tell us how this overreaching plan helps my community,” Tanelli said.
