Economic Stimulus check

East Newark Mayor Joseph R. Smith is reminding senior residents of the following important information:

Don't Miss Out on the Economic Stimulus Check – the Congress authorized this year economic stimulus payments of $300 per eligible taxpayer and $600 for married couples. There are many seniors who have not claimed their entitlement to these payments and there is a deadline of October 15, 2008 to file. Or call the Hudson County Constituent Services at 201-795-6198 or the East Newark Department of Human Services, 34 Sherman Avenue, East Newark on Monday and Wednesdays between the hours of 5 to 7 p.m.
Mayor Smith is also reminding all seniors with Medicare that the Medicare Annual Election Period is November 15 through December 31, 2008 and during this time Medicare eligibles can change, add or drop a Medicare prescription drug plan. Smith stated that certain groups of people will be receiving correspondence from the government explaining the opportunities available concerning the prescription plans for 2009. In some cases the information may be confusing and require clarification. Mayor Smith is urging all eligible senior residents to avail themselves of the above programs and all avenues of assistance to better the quality of life of the people.
