LYNDHURST – The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission is hosting a live music and swing dance event with the Somers Dream Orchestra this Thursday, July 31 at the Meadowlands Environment Center.
The evening kicks off with free dance lessons at 6:30 p.m. followed by the 18-piece Somers Orchestra performing big band hits from the dancehall days of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Benny Goodman. Those who don’t dance are invited to come and enjoy the music.
“The Swing Dance Party is a fabulous event and a great example of the NJMC’s continuing efforts to enhance quality of life in the Meadowlands District,” Robert Ceberio, Executive Director of the NJMC said. “I invite everyone to come join the party and see what else the Meadowlands has to offer.”
In addition to dance nights, the NJMC offers educational programming and talks throughout the year for children and adults. In September the Commission will present a series of astronomy lectures and open its new William D. McDowell Observatory to the public on certain nights.
The NJMC campus is located in Richard W. DeKorte Park, a 110-acre urban oasis of nature trails and scenic views. With more than 250 bird species and other wildlife, there’s always something new to discover.
