LYNDHURST – The Barringer-Walker-Lopinto American Legion Post 139 baseball team just completed one if its finest seasons, finishing first in the regular season with a 17 - 2 record, winning the District 1 title going 5 - 0 and winning the State Championship going 5 - 1. Their first State Championship in 40 years.
To honor our coaches and players, Post 139 is planning a dinner where we hope to present them with championship rings and jackets that I know they will cherish for the rest of their lives, carrying with them many fond memories of the 2008 season. For 19 years, local businesses and organizations have supported our annual ad journal which helped tremendously with our expenses of insurance, umpire fees, balls and equipment, league fees and uniforms for both our Senior and Junior teams. We've never charged our players to play for our teams. We run fund raisers and use refreshment stand money to support this great program.
I'm appealing to anyone out there to help our Post give our coaches and players the championship rings and jackets they deserve by making a donation. Any donation you make will be appreciated and is tax deductible. No donation is too small. Anything you can afford will be greatly appreciated. All donations will be acknowledged at the dinner.
Please make your check payable to: LYNDHURST AMERICAN LEGION POST 139 and put BASEBALL in the memo part. Please mail it to: Lyndhurst American Legion Post 139, P. O. Box 382, Lyndhurst, N J 07071 and to the attention of Jerry Sparta by Oct. 31st.
