North Arlington police blotter

NORTH ARLINGTON – While on night patrol, Feb. 27, North Arlington Police Officer Tony Abilio observed a silver truck moving at a high rate of speed, almost striking Abilio’s patrol car. A chase ensued. Abilio was able to stop the truck on Ridge Road near Hendel Avenue.
The driver refused to step out of vehicle when requested to do so by Abilio. Smelling alcohol on the driver’s breath, the officer managed to remove the driver from the vehicle. Observing the driver stagger, the police officer placed the driver under arrest at 11:40 p.m.
Arrested was Thomas Mcgirr, 48, of North Arlington. Impounded was a 2005 GMC pick-up truck. Mcgirr was processed and released to a responsible party.
On March 1, at 10:10 p.m., North Arlington Police Officer Gary Edwards was called to a Schuyler Avenue Foodtown to investigate a possible shoplifting. The suspect identified herself as Francine Stefanelli. Checking the suspect’s pocketbook, Edwards found ice cream, light bulbs, a sharpie marker and two “White-Outs.” Items were valued at $22.82. She had no money and was arrested.
A fingerprint check revealed her to be Christine Stefanelli, 38, of Lyndhurst.
