Waterline upgrades in North Arlington

NORTH ARLINGTON – The Passaic Valley Water Commission will be making improvements to the borough’s water system this month that will result in increased water pressure and better water quality, says Council President Albert Granell.
Granell said the PVWC will be adding two new metered inflow pipes, which will improve water flow and quality and will minimize service disruption should something happen to the one major 20-inch water main on Ridge Road that services the borough.
The two new metered pipes will be a 12-inch main installed at Schuyler and Union avenues, and an 8-inch main at Jauncey and River Road.
In addition the PVWC will improve water pipe interconnections at Ridge Road and Jauncey Avenue and Ridge Road and Canterbury Avenue.
Granell said he welcomes the upgrades to the borough’s water service, which has caused some concern in recent months after the Borough of Lyndhurst connected to the PVWC system.
“The mayor and council have made it very clear to the PVWC that we are not happy with the problems some of our residents have been experiencing and that we expect a higher degree of service than we have had since Lyndhurst came on line,” Granell said .
Mayor Peter Massa said the discussions the borough has had with the PVWC have led to the improvements that will soon be underway. “I am pleased that the PVWC is reacting positively to the concerns we have expressed about water quality and water pressure. The new investment the PVWC is making to the borough’s water system should clear up any problems residents have.”
The PVWC issued an alert noting that “due to changes in the water circulation patterns, it is expected that temporary instances of discolored water may occur during the transition period.
“Passaic Valley Water Commission assures all customers that the water will be safe for use during this period; however, customers are cautioned to determine if the water is clear before washing clothes (or any other processing) as staining may occur.”
Residents who have concerns about water usage should call the PVWC customer service number at 973-340-4300
