Last inaugural Piano Salon Series at NJMC

LYNDHURST –
Pianist Rossano Sportiello will bring his lively blend of be bop, ragtime, and swing to the Meadowlands Environment Center for a 1 p.m. performance on April 19. The concert, part of the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission’s (NJMC) 40th Anniversary Celebration, closes out the Environment Center’s inaugural Piano Salon Series.
Sportiello, a native of Italy, was inspired growing up by such ragtime greats as Jellyroll Morton and Fats Waller. He began his professional career at age 18 with the historic Milano Jazz Gang and has performed with such artists as Slide Hampton, Gerry Mulligan and Bucky Pizzarelli.
Sportiello, who is also a composer and teacher, says his goal is “to play jazz and make it understandable to everybody.
Most of all, I want to see people smiling and having fun.”
The Piano Salon Series is made possible thanks to the donation of a grand piano by Dr. Jerome Bellet makes the Piano Salon Series is possible. We thank him wholeheartedly. Ramapo College, which partners with the NJMC to run educational programs at the center, operates the Environment Center. Tickets are $10 per person, $7 for MEC members. Following the concert, refreshments will be served. Pre-registration is suggested at njmeadowlands.gov/ec.
