Summer Events at NJMC

As summer approaches, the Meadowlands Commission is lining up more and more events to mark its 40th anniversary. Here are some dates to set aside (we’ll also soon announce a weekday DeKorte Park walk in honor of a new DeKorte Park Trail Guide):

Sunday, June 21: Father’s Day Canoe Paddle in Mill Creek Marsh

Saturday, June 27 (evening): New Jersey Symphony Orchestra outdoor concert, DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst (To be announced soon)

Saturday, August 22: “Let There Be Mud,” A day with shorebird expert and photographer Kevin Karlson, including nature walk, shorebird-ID seminar, and slideshow/talk (to be announced down the road)

Sunday, July 19: Butterfly Walk in DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst (goes on the blog tomorrow, as follows)

On Sunday, July 19, the Meadowlands Commission and the Bergen County Audubon Society are sponsoring "Butterflies for Beginners," offered free to anyone interested in learning how to identify the butterflies of the Meadowlands.
Optics for butterflies and backyard butterfly gardens will be discussed, followed by a short walk. Butterfly aficionados of all levels are welcome.
The event is from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Jill Ann Zimkiewicz Memorial Butterfly Garden in front of the Meadowlands Environment Center in DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst.
