Lyndhurst man arrested on child sexual assault charges

HACKENSACK –John L. Molinelli arrested of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Sept. 16 that John Marion, 31, of 206 Lafayette Ave., Lyndhurst was arrested on charges of one count each of sexual assault (a 2nd degree crime,) criminal sexual contact (4th degree,) and endangering the welfare of a child (3rd degree.) The Sept.15 arrest occurred at 7 p.m. at the Prosecutor’s Office in Hackensack and came about as a result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Squad, under the direction of Chief Joseph Macellaro and the Lyndhurst Police Department, under the direction of Chief James O’Connor.
Marion was supposed to be working at Simplex Sprinkler in Rockaway, according to the press release.
Marion was arrested after the collaborative investigation of the above agencies revealed that between July 2009 and August 2009, the suspect sexually assaulted the victim, who is under the age of 16. The sexual assault occurred in the Township of Lyndhurst.
Bail was set for Marion at $100,000 with no 10 percent option by the Honorable Peter Melchionne, J.S.C. As a condition of bail, the alleged predator is to have no contact with the victim and surrender his passport. The suspect was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.
Honorable George Savino, J.M.C. for Sept. 22 at 9:30 a.m., set the arraignment date police reports said.
Prosecutor Molinelli states that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would like to thank the Lyndhurst Police Department for their assistance and cooperation in the investigation.
