QP to hold life issues seminar

Life Issues Seminar Scheduled for Oct. 3

As the nation continues a sometimes contentious discussion about the value of life at all stages, a discussion that today has moved beyond the subject of abortion and into the realm of the future of comprehensive healthcare in the United States, The Archdiocese of Newark will hold its annual Life Issues Seminar – Overcoming the Culture of Death – on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Queen of Peace High School and Church, North Arlington.
Featured presenters in this year’s program will be: Prof. Robert P. George, McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence and Founder and Director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions, Princeton University, and; Damon Owens, founder of Joy-Filled Marriage of New Jersey and author of God’s Plan for a Joy-Field Marriage.
“We view this year’s seminar as a direct call to action for all good-minded people to become involved in ensuring that this nation maintains a true commitment to valuing all people, and safeguarding the dignity and sanctity of all life,” said Rev. Joseph Meager, director of the Archdiocesan Respect Life Office. “Our two speakers are internationally known for their thought-provoking, intelligent defense of every human person as a gift of God. Professor George’s work in law, culture and politics has earned him numerous degrees and accolades, and Mr. Owens’ appearance at conferences, seminars and school and parish groups has enabled thousands of people to understand that protecting and reverencing life at all stages is a central part of our daily life as fellow human beings and citizens.”
The day’s activities will begin at 11a.m with Mass celebrated by the Most Rev. Edgar Mc. DaCunha, S.D.V., Regional Bishop of Essex County and Vicar for Evangelization of the Archdiocese. After a short period for lunch and networking, Prof. George and Mr. Owens will address the group. The audience will then be able to take part in a question and answer session with the speakers and other members of the Archdiocesan Respect Life Commission. The day’s activities will then conclude with prayer led by Father Meagher.
Although sponsored by the Archdiocese of Newark, Overcoming the Culture of Death is open to all. Cost for the day’s program is $10 for adults, $5 for students, and $5 for parish pro-life coordinators.
